I.T. by Design is a Microsoft Certified Partner organization with a Custom Software Development designation. Among our staff, we have over 30 Microsoft certifications. Our senior development staff, development managers, and executives each possess between 8 and 18 years experience in software development. Members of our executive and senior staff also teach programming classes for LSU’s Division of Continuing Education. # A large property and casualty insurance corporation needed to add functionality to its main system.

The company has a system that manages and maintains most of its processes. The company needed to track the status of attorney expense checks within this system. I.T. by Design added functionality on to the main system in order to process these payments and update the status.

The sports organization was manually collecting and tracking membership due payments. I.T. by Design created a page for its website where members could enter their information, select membership type, and pay via credit card. The solution makes reenrollment more convenient and reduces the risk of errors and lost enrollments.

The school decided to use I.T. by Design's email hosting services. These services include addresses with the website domain, uptime guarantee, spam and virus protection, support, and access from anywhere via Microsoft Webmail.

A single sign on solution was developed which would only require one user name and password in order to access all systems in which the user is authorized. The solution not only made these various systems easier to use and manage, but it also reduced the time and operating expenses for the organization's employees who were bogged down with password reset requests and questions.

# A popular local grocery store needed to collaborate across its various locations.

I.T. by Design setup Windows SharePoint Services and developed an intranet for the company that can be accessed from all locations. This will allow managers and other personnel to communicate and share relevant information with each other without having to worry about document versioning issues and information security. I.T. by Design also provided training on SharePoint to users in order for the intranet to be used and implemented properly in the future.

The insurance company did not want to drastically change the processes users took to remit payments. Thus, an interface was developed between the client and the bank’s systems in order for the two organizations to securely transmit data.

Along with inaccurate reporting of this accounting system, it was also printing checks and policy notifications inconsistently. Bug fixes were made to the system to help the system become more reliable, and robust error reporting was implemented so that such errors could be reported and fixed as they occurred.

A new learning management system for an online learning environment had to be integrated with the master system at an organization that trains and teaches first responders around the country on counterterrorism tactics. The integration significantly reduced manual data entry into the master system.

Work on this solution has included fixing support issues left by the previous developer, adding new features, and re-engineering the application modules that are performing poorly or causing consistent problems. This application has hundreds of users and is being used daily to process millions of dollars of financial transactions. Also designed and implemented a data warehouse that took the summary reporting burden off the transactional database and sped up previous developer’s reports. Reports that took hours to run to now run in under one minute without locking the transactional database.

Created an application that tracked emergency first responders who attended various anti-terrorism courses nationwide. This application accepted scanned registration data and matched it with existing people, addresses, and organizations. This application also allowed user-defined mapping of scanned data utilizing person and address searching with name proximity and location based result-sets.

# Developed a project workflow and contact tracking system for an engineering firm to assist Mississippi in post-hurricane recovery. (Click to expand ⁄ contract.)

We worked with an engineering firm to develop a system which allows the Mississippi Development Authority to track all communication and activity associated with EGP (Elevation Grant Program) and SRAP (Small Rental Assistance Program) applications submitted by Mississippi residents. The system also enforces a workflow so that each step in the application process is documented and tracked properly. As each step is completed, the system updates the status of the application so that the appropriate personnel may proceed accordingly. This system also has robust search functionality so that applications may be found easily.

Re-designed and enhanced a public facing, web-based application for a Louisiana government agency. This application is used by all Louisiana insurance agents to access information from this agency. The security portal allows insurance agents to securely access and update information for their associated companies and company users. Agency personnel use the system to easily grant agents permissions for different roles within various modules in the system. Enhancements to the portal resulted in eliminating redundant data entry and allowing for across-system reporting.

# Re-engineered large firm’s infrastructure while moving core network operations into a Tier 3 datacenter. (Click to expand ⁄ contract.)

Designed the network infrastructure for an insurance company to stabilize their current systems, increase system uptime, and secure data. We set up the company’s entire infrastructure in a Tier3 data center so that all insurance policy information is 100% protected, even in the instance of a natural disaster. We monitor this company’s network 24x7x365.

The client’s goal was to remove as many policies from its system and pass them along to its member insurance agencies. A process was developed along with a Microsoft® SharePoint site used to track this process and automatically remove policies from the system as of their termination dates. This saves the insurance provider time and frees up its resources to focus on other goals of the organization.

Prior to the development of the website, customers could only request information regarding the restaurant via phone call or fax. We created a website which allows menus and other information to be accessible online. The website also provides customers with the ability to input information and send questions directly the restaurant personnel. We also host this website.

# From within our data center we supported an insurance agency’s continuous operation during hurricane Gustav in 2008. (Click to expand ⁄ contract.)

We fully supported a major “insurer of last resort” during hurricane Gustav in 2008. We supplied developers, infrastructure specialists, work space, and internet connectivity to our client throughout the hurricane and its aftermath. As an insurance agency which insures predominately high-risk areas; our client’s reaction to the storm was heavily monitored by the public—especially in a post Katrina world. We provided our client with all of the tools necessary to successfully and efficiently care for all of their policy holders during this time of distress.

# Created a system that allowed a stevedoring company to track barges and shipments using various external data sources. (Click to expand ⁄ contract.)

Integrated data from multiple sources including information provided by the U.S. Coast Guard to track all maritime vessels traveling in and out of the major ports and landing zones in Louisiana. This application provides our client with the capability to track the location and the loading and unloading times of every vessel. The system also interacts with another device which allows for the reporting of the total tonnage and type of supplies being shipped in each vessel.

We developed an application that retrieves scheduling, location, and participant count information for each training class using a calendar of classes feature. The application uses this information to create an automated list of supplies that need to be shipped to each class. We integrated this application with a UPS™ program called UPS Worldship™. This integration eliminates double-entry of shipping information and enables a more accurate and efficient process to ship supplies to and from training locations. Other features of this application are tracking of inventory and maintenance of supplies.

# Designed a calculation engine for worldwide use by engineers. (Click to expand ⁄ contract.)

It allowed engineers to create formulas with complex iterative calculations using a pool of variables and flowchart-like logic. Variables and formulas could be added long after the engine is complete. Variables and calculations can be related in such a way that they update one another when run. After UML and written specification designs, the client’s programmers in Chicago were trained on object oriented programming and taught how to write the application in a classroom setting.

Using this application on a PDA, facility personnel could view or adjust thermometer settings, lights, door locks, etc. This application is being used nationally by sales staff for the environmental control company to demonstrate the programmability of their facility controls.

# Created a user-centered corporate upload application. (Click to expand ⁄ contract.)

Created a screen saver-like application that allows end users to upload PowerPoint slides, web pages, video, images, word documents, and PDF files. Users can also create schedules that contain display order and view times of each included file. Several schedules can co-exist and the application can be switched from schedule to schedule instantly. The currently selected schedule runs on plasma displays at the organization.

# Designed a custom learning management database. (Click to expand ⁄ contract.)

Designed a custom learning management database by interviewing over 50 employees, gathering requirements, and analyzing ten existing data systems. Built a solution database that will meet requirements and allow consolidation and normalization of all data systems into one database. The resulting database contained over 145 tables and millions of rows of data. We designed and built the database, converted the existing data into the database, and developed functional specifications. Because of the nature of the project and our development of the specifications, the organization had to bid the development of a front end application to another vendor. We provided knowledge transfer to this vendor, project management assistance, and application testing services once the front end development began.

Developed a data scrubbing and transfer mechanism that allowed one of our client organizations to interface with Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The data structures, scrubbing, and transfer had to be implemented according to DHS standards.

Created an application that tracks traffic device inventory on all state roads in Louisiana. Included devices are signals, signs, road striping, traffic cameras, solar panels, message boards, controller boxes, and containing data such as traffic signal lenses and sign mounting trusses. This application tracks the devices, work orders against these devices, maintenance work, and related scheduling and costs. Devices warranties can be compared to their actual performance in the system, which also allows inspection data to be recorded.

# Designed and Developed an unlimited process tracking application. (Click to expand ⁄ contract.)

Designed and developed a completely custom workflow engine that allows the routing of work requests, engineer studies, and associated report creation. The engine allows the definition of unlimited processes. Each process is broken into steps and each step can be assigned to different people based on location of the work in question. Steps can have associated decisions and rout work to different future steps based on an answer given in a previous step. Administrators can view reports telling them how people and teams are performing based on how long a process remaining on someone’s item list.

Created a system to track all inventory, billing, receivables, and related accounting around the interstate exits’ Logo Sign Panel program in Louisiana. The first billing year of using this application, the Logo program doubled its previous record annual revenue because of the enhanced billing and account payable modules.

# Wrote software for high-budget real estate purschasing and management. (Click to expand ⁄ contract.)

Wrote an application for a real estate firm which purchases and manages various large facilities nationwide (prisons, nursing homes, student housing, etc.). This application allowed the merging of financial data from various accounting systems already in use at various facilities into the central organization’s accounting system. This included chart of account mappings, data scrubbing on source data, and heavy transactional and batch processing functionality.
